Moliere is a comedy from 2007 directed by Laurent Tirard. The film is a fictional account of the life of Moliere, the French playwright. The film begins in 1658 before Moliere (Roman Duris) has achieved success. He is locked up in debtor's prison. With the help of wealthy Monsieur Jourdain (Fabrice Luchini) Moliere is released from debtor's prison. Jourdain needs Moliere's help to become an actor so he can win the heart of a beautiful younger woman. All of this needs to be kept a secret from Jourdain's wife, Elmire (Laura Morante). Moliere moves in to the Jourdain home as Tartuffe, a priest who will tutor the children. After a while Moliere falls in love with Elmire. The comedy increases as Moliere's life gets more complicated. He needs to keep his love for Elmire secret from Jourdain, and Jourdain's other love secret from Elmire, and teach Jourdain how to be a talented actor.
