Molokai: The Story of Father Damien is a true story based on the life of a Catholic priest who dedicated his life to helping build a better life for a leper colony in Hawaii in the late 1900s. Father Damien (David Wenham) volunteers to go on a mission to Molokai, the island where banished lepers must live to prevent the spread of leprosy. The Bishop warns Father Damien before his departure not to touch anyone there. Upon his arrival in Molokai, he sees first-hand the appalling living conditions the lepers must endure. Father Damien disregards the Bishop's warning and helps the people build proper housing, schools, a hospital and a church. He ministers to their spiritual and physical needs and gains their love and trust over the years. Father Damien eventually contracts leprosy himself, but his undying dedication eventually touches others who offer help and support to Father Damien and his beloved people. The supporting cast includes such stars as Sam Neill, Peter O'Toole, Kris Kristofferson and Derek Jacobi.moreless
