Mondovino

Movie Summary

Director:
Jonathan Nossiter
Released:
2005
Rating:
PG-13
Mondovino, one of only four documentaries to ever be nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, explores the winemaking business and the impact that globalization is having upon it. Director Jonathan Nossitor produced this tour de force documentary, originally a project undertaken with a small budget to fill time between other projects, using only a single hand-held camera and conducting one-on-one interviews with subjects in the wine business world-wide. The interviews include winemakers and critics from seven different countries, on three different continents, discussing nineteen different wineries. Mondovino is especially intent on focusing on the relationship between the huge international wine producers and the smaller and, often times, family owned and operated wineries. Hailed by Michael Wilmington of the Chicago Tribune as "a knowledgeable work and so pleasantly obsessed with its subject that it will interest even audiences whose attraction to wine is only casual," anyone who enjoys a good glass of wine will enjoy this insightful documentary as well.moreless
