Monsoon Wedding is a romantic comedy film directed by Mira Nair that centers on the dramas and romantic courtships developing during a traditional Punjabi wedding in Delhi. Lalit Verma (Naseeruddin Shah) is a caring man, desperately trying to organize the final details of his daughter, Aditi’s (Vasundhara Das), arranged marriage to a stranger, Hemant Rai (Parvin Dabas). Things would be so much simpler if his wedding planner PK Dubey (Vijay Raaz) wasn’t tweaking the details just at the last second and his hidden courtship of Lalit’s maid, Alice (Tillotama Shome). As Aditi tries to settle the affair with her married ex-boss, her brother Varun (Ishaan Nair) seeks to go outside the typical masculine roles his father wants for him and her cousin Ria (Shefali Shah) reveals a secret she’s kept close since the death of her father. All of this occurs while Lalit rushes to miss the impending monsoon season. Monsoon Wedding is a lush and vibrant look at the modern and traditional world clashing in India as the youth become more defiant and unconventional much to the dismay of the quite stricter and much more fixed ideals of the elders.moreless

The agile handling of the soap-opera elements -- conventional plotting at best -- finally makes "Wedding" a pop, facile take on Capulet versus Montague stuff, likable but square.
