Monster-In-Law is a 2003 romantic comedy directed by Australian cinematographer Robert Luketic. After going on one bad date after another, Venice Beach native Charlotte 'Charlie' Cantilini (Jennifer Lopez) is skeptical that she will ever find true love. But when handsome surgeon Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan) walks into her life, Charlie finally thinks that she has finally found her perfect match. After a whirlwind romance, Kevin proposes to Charlie, which sparks jealousy from Kevin's mother, Viola (Jane Fonda). When Viola suffered a meltdown after losing her position at a television station to a younger anchorwoman, she stayed for a few months in a mental institution. Now that she is finally out of the asylum, she thinks that beautiful Charlie is just another young tramp trying to take away one of the most important things in her life -- her son. As Viola hatches one absurd plan after another in an attempt to ruin her son's engagement, Charlie must try to outwit and outlast her monster-in-law so that she can marry the man she loves.moreless
