Moscow on the Hudson is the 1984 Dramedy starring legendary funnyman Robin Williams, and is now available on Netflix. Directed by acclaimed director Paul Mazursky, Moscow on the Hudson tells the story of a Russian saxophone player Vladimir Ivanoff (Williams) who grows dissatisfied with the hypocritical and unfair laws of the Soviet Union, and while his band is on a guarded tour of New York City, Ivanoff runs off and defects in the middle of Bloomingdales. With the help of a mall security guard (Cleavant Derricks), Ivanoff is given a temporary place to stay and get accustomed to the completely flipped way of life in the America. Though the overwhelming experience makes him lonely for something or someone familiar, he finds comfort when he meets beautiful Lucia (Maria Conchita Alonso) - an Italian immigrant who works at the Bloomingdales cosmetics counter. This is a charming account of the American dream, told through a controversial subject in the final years of the Cold War. Robin Williams' Performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination.moreless
