Mother of Mine films a displaced boy adapting to his new war-time home while trying to find his real mother at the same time. This Finnish drama opens with Eero (Topi Majaniemi) happily living in Finland with his mom, Kristi (Marjaana Maijala), and dad (Gustav Wiklund). World War II starts and Russian bombers destroy their village killing his dad instantly. Kristi falls into a deep depression. Unable to care for her son and scared that the Russians will return, she sends him away to live at a foster home in Sweden. Young Eero soon meets his mean foster mom, Signe (Maria Lundqvist), who hates the fact the agency sent a boy instead of a girl. Eros has a hard time learning Swedish, and his classmates tease him everyday at school because of his accent. Four years pass, and a much older Eros (Esko Salminen) feels his mom has abandoned him. The war is now over and an older Kristi (Aino-Maija Tikkanen) is no longer depressed and desperately wants her son back. Meanwhile, back in Sweden, Eros decides to leave and make a new life in Denmark. While packing his things he finds a stack of hidden letters written over the past four years by his mom. Eero confronts Singe and a violent argument occurs. As Eero leaves Sweden, a spiteful Singe calls police and makes a false report. With a new change of plan, Eero decides to look for his real mom, not knowing where to start, and with the police hot on his tail.moreless
