Mourning Becomes Electra is a 1947 film based on the play by the same name. The story tells of the drama that unfolds as Ezra Mannon (Raymond Massey) returns home from the Civil War to the not-so-welcoming arms of his wife Christine (Katina Paxinou), who has found comfort in the arms of a younger man by the name of Adam Brant (Leo Genn). Ezra does not understand the true vendetta that his wife, Christine, bears for him and mistakes it for a momentary lapse in love. The couples' daughter, Lavinnia (Rosalind Russel) discovers that her mother has now taken up relations with Brant, her own ex-lover, and all hell breaks loose as what used to be a functioning family devolves into a raving pack of plotting animals. While this movie adaptation borrows its plot from the original play, the original play in turn borrows its plot from the Greek mythological story of Orestes.moreless
