Mouth to Mouth is coming of age movie about a young girl learning hard lessons in life while spending time with a rebellious street gang. Sherry (Ellen Page) is just an innocent runaway searching for something meaningful to cling to. Homeless, wandering the streets of Europe, she meets a group of teens and finds comfort in their common beliefs. It turns out the kids belong to a cult, SPARK (Street People Armed with Radical Knowledge), which is run by the charismatic Harry. Sherry, or Bat, as her moniker becomes, travels around with the extremist group, picking up kids along the way to indoctrinate with Harry's ideas. Her naivety is all too obvious, and when her mother Rose (Natasha Wightman) can finally find and rescue her, she may have already lost too much. Writer and director Alison Murray takes inspiration from her own experiences in this gritty drama that illustrates the fine line between a sense of belonging and manipulation. Mouth to Mouth is a very relatable story that exposes vulnerabilities we all feel.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Variety Dennis Harvey

Emerges an uneven, occasionally vivid, ultimately unsatisfactory treatment of themes that should've packed more punch.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times

As the film progresses, however, Murray becomes less and less sure of where things are heading or what it is she is trying to get at, such that the last few reels feel perfunctory ...

The New York Times Stephen Holden

The upbeat ending can't erase the lingering aura of being trapped in an insane asylum with the Manson family.
