Movie Summary

Director:
Andrew Black
Released:
2007
Rating:
PG-13
Moving McAllister is not as easy as it sounds, which is what Rick Robinson (Ben Gourley) learns over the course of a few days when he agrees to help his boss four days before his bar exam. Not only must he rent a truck, pack it and drive it from Miami to L.A., he must also contend with McAllister's (Rutger Hauer) precocious niece and her pet pig. It's a mad dash cross country dealing with craziness at every turn and his time is running out. He realizes why it isn't smart to pick up hitchhikers like Orlie (Jon Heder) and that locals aren't always very friendly. The bar exam awaits and helping his boss won't matter if he doesn't make the grade. He has no idea what he will gain from this adventure, but it surely was more than he bargained for. Andrew Black directs this frantic jaunt that takes sucking up to the boss and turns it on its ear.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times

Are you hungering for that rare vampire movie with serious intellectual heft, ravishing undead, biting passion and a healthy splash of irony as well as iron in all that spilled red...

  • 70

The New York Times A.O. Scott

Unfortunately, it is also less than the sum of its parts -- overly long, lacking in narrative momentum and too often choosing sensation over coherence.

  • 50

    Variety Derek Elley

An overlong stygian comedy that badly needs a transfusion of genuine inspiration.
