Mr. Scoutmaster is a 1953 comedy directed by Henry Levin. Robert Jordan (Clifton Webb) is a TV star who tends to think very highly of himself and isn't very skilled at playing well with others. But Robert is forced to rethink his career decisions when his TV show's ratings start to plummet. Robert, who is childless, worries that he's unable to connect with the younger TV audience. Robert's sponsors demand that he find a way to reach this prime audience. Determined to boost his ratings and revive his star status, Robert grumpily agrees to become a Boy Scout leader and use his experiences to retool his show. Robert's first mission is to lead an overnight hike and camping trip, and his gruff manner is hilariously challenged by the energetic young Boy Scouts. Mike (George Winslow) is a lonely Boy Scout who takes a special liking to Robert and starts treating him like a father figure, despite Robert's disinterest. The reluctant Robert has to learn how to genuinely care for others if he hopes to save his TV show.moreless
