Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry is a romantic comedy from 1986. Margaret Delafield (Katherine Hepburn) is a very wealthy widow. Doctor Marvin Elias (Harold Gould) is Delafield's doctor, also a widow, and a highly esteemed doctor. Margaret takes her family totally by surprise and announces she is going to marry Dr. Elias. Her children have two problems with the marriage, their mother's incredible wealth, that the doctor could be after; and the fact that Dr. Elias is Jewish. Dr. Elias's children are just as shocked for two reasons, Mrs. Delafield could be a gold digger after their father's wealth, and she's not Jewish. The comedy comes through as the grown children give their parents the same reasons for not getting together, gold digging and leaving their "people". Margaret's sons Chipper (Charles Frank) and Horton (David Ogden Stiers), do all they can to talk their mother out of the marriage. Will Mrs. Delafield take the advice of her children, or follow her heart?moreless
