Movie Summary

David Lynch (I)
Mulholland Drive is a psychological thriller made by famous filmmaker David Lynch Eraserhead, Blue Velvet). In this film, Lynch abandons the traditional, linear form of story telling, and adopts a non-sequential, surrealistic approach. The movie takes place in present day Los Angeles. Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) is a young aspiring actress who moves to Los Angeles in hopes of kickstarting her career. Her aunt has offered for Betty to stay at her house, even though she will be out of town. Betty arrives at her aunt's house to find a strange, but beautiful dark-haired woman (Laura Harring) showering in the bathroom. What is even more surprising is that this unannounced guest cannot remember her name, let alone how she ended up where she is. Nevertheless, Betty sees that she is harmless and befriends the strange woman. Betty then becomes determined to help the woman realize who she is and where she came from. As the story unfolds, scenes shift between vignettes of reality, dreams, and nightmares - it is like piecing together a puzzle.
