Murder in China Basin is a 1999 low-budget thriller about the murder of a piano player, George Guest (Noel Harrison), found in the China Basin area of Los Angeles, an infamous hiding place for illegal Chinese immigrants at the turn of the century. The prime suspect is Steve (Chris Byrne), a broke and hapless upholstery store owner who was having an affair with George's sultry wife Allison (Jennifer Starr). Steve calls on his equally luckless ex-wife Claire (Elizabeth Rossa), a former cop, to vindicate him. Through her investigations Allison discovers that Claire attempted to enlist Steve to murder her husband for his inheritance, but he refused. As she digs deeper, Claire discovers the dark side of Los Angeles and finds out that none of these characters are what they seem, including the strange character of Allison's younger brother, Joe (Derek Sitter). Murder in China Beach is written and directed by first-time filmmaker Norman Gerard.
