PG-13

Music and Lyrics is a romantic comedy from 2007 that was directed and written by Marc Lawrence. Former pop star Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is struggling to make ends meet as a composer while his old partner, Colin Thompson (Scott Porter) is floating on a successful solo career after their band PoP!'s success in the 1980s. Alex is given one more chance to make it big; the teen singing sensation Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) has hired Alex to write a single for her. Alex struggles with the new task as his part of PoP! had always been to write the music and not the lyrics. When Alex finds out that his plant lady, Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore) has a knack for writing beautiful lyrics, he begs her to join in to write the song. Sophie, still hurt from a breakup with her old English professor, Sloan Cates (Campbell Scott), is afraid to begin a partnership of any kind. Together, Alex and Sophie must learn how to trust each other so that the music and lyrics can come together to form a hit song and maybe even a romance. Music and Lyrics was produced by Castle Rock Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures.
