My American Cousin is a 1985 Canadian film written and directed by Sandy Wilson and starring Margaret Langrick, John Wildman, Richard Donat, and Jane Mortifee. Sandy Wilcox (Langrick) is a twelve year old who longs to be treated like an adult by both her her family and those around her. When her American cousin Butch Walker (Wildman) shows up driving a fancy car, Sandy is captivated. Sandy is attracted to him, but he considers her too young. She discovers that Butch has actually run away from home and stolen his mother's car and decides that she wants to do the same. Sandy tries to convince Butch to let her go with him and the two develop a bond. Soon the whole town is buzzing about the arrival of the rebellious American, and his past begins to catch up with him. My American Cousin won six awards at the Genie Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Film Editing.moreless
