My Bodyguard

Movie Summary

Director:
Tony Bill
Released:
1980
Rating:
PG
My Bodyguard is a coming-of-age film about the relationship between a boy who is the constant target of bullies and the misunderstood kid who comes to protect him. In the film, Clifford Peache (Chris Makepeace) is a fanciful rich kid who becomes the target of a school bully named Melvin Moody (Matt Dillon) and his pack of friends. Melvin demands money from Clifford, presumably to protect him from a violent school thug named Ricky Linderman (Adam Baldwin). Clifford, however, doubts Melvin's story and approaches Ricky about becoming his personal bodyguard. Together, Clifford and Ricky form a fast friendship that is cemented when Clifford helps Ricky build a motorcycle. Clifford also eventually learns that Ricky is not violent; he just feels guilty about the role he played in a tragedy years ago. Though Ricky makes for an excellent bodyguard, Clifford ultimately learns that he must defend himself against the likes of Melvin if he is ever going to truly grow up.
