My Brother is the story of two boys born in the inner city. Isaiah Morton (Nashawn Kearse) must face the challenges of growing up and of looking after his developmentally challenged sibling James (Christopher Scott). Their mother L'tisha (Vanessa Williams) is dying of tuberculosis and attempts to put the boys up for adoption, but is told that only Isaiah can be adopted. They struggle to adulthood, but as adults, Isaiah comes to resent being James' protector and keeper and wants to start a new life as a stand-up comic. He needs to be reminded that his brother is the most important thing in his life. With a fairly strong religious message, this movie was released in conjunction with the Special Olympics. Both of the actors playing James - Christopher Scott as an adult and Donovan Jennings in flashbacks to their childhood themselves have Down's Syndrome. The movie won a number of black cinema awards.
