My Fair Lady is a 1964 musical starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. The film is based on a play titled Pygmalion by legendary playwright George Bernard Shaw. The year is 1912 and Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison), a conceited, chauvinistic linguist brags to his friend Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White) about his great ability to teach phonetics. He tells Pickering that he can convert any woman's improper speech to the most astounding articulation within six months time. Higgins faces his greatest challenge when he meets Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn), a young girl from the Cockney slums who is eager to learn proper English. Eliza is a 'dirty' girl, and has a long way to come. Hepburn and Harrison both deliver phenomenally in this film. My Fair Lady won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, for Harrison, and 5 more Oscar awards during its release in 1964. My Fair Lady is comparable to West Side Story and The Sound of Music.
