My Foolish Heart (1949) is an emotional movie about a woman's choices in life that have brought her to where she is today. Produced by Samuel Goldwyn and based on J. D. Salinger's story "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut," this sentimental drama is the only movie adaptation of any of the writer's works. The story revolves around Eloise Winters (Susan Hayward), a bitter drunken housewife, who is unhappily married to Lewis Wengler (Kent Smith). Eloise receives a visit from her long time school friend Mary Jane (Lois Wheeler), whom she hasn't seen in years. During this visit, Eloise's husband comes home to tell her that he wants a divorce and will fight her for custody of their daughter. In her drunken agitation, she recalls how she fell for Walt Dreiser (Dana Andrews), her true love, the tragic end of their romance, her falling out with her best friend, and how she ended up marrying Lew, during the beginning of the Second World War.moreless
