My Name is Joe is a drama set in a poor Glasgow, Scotland, neighborhood, Possilpark. The 1998 Cannes Film Festival Best Actor, Peter Mullan, plays Joe Kavanagh, a man struggling to put his life back together. Joe is on welfare, works odd jobs when he can find them and coaches a soccer team to keep busy. Liam (David McKay) is one of the team's soccer players. Formerly a heroin addict himself, Liam lives with his drug-addict girlfriend, Sabine (Anne-Marie Kennedy), and together they are raising a 4-year old child. A loan shark, McGowan (David Hayman), is threatening Liam, so he goes to Joe for help. Joe meets Sarah (Louise Goodall), a social worker dealing with Liam's family situation. This chance encounter leads to a small wallpaper job for Joe and romance for the couple. Joe, at times, is brutally honest with Sarah about his past. His sobriety hangs in the balance as he confronted by situations from the present and his past that haunt him.moreless
