Considered to be the best and most beloved of all Roy Rogers' films, this rousing and tuneful Western follows the fictional tale of the legendary horse Trigger, from his birth to becoming Roy's trusty mount. The adventure begins when the singing cowboy (Rogers) hopes to mate his favorite mare with the powerful stallion Golden Sovereign, who is owned by Gabby Kendrick (George 'Gabby' Hayes). Gabby refuses, and conniving villain Brett Skoville (Jack Holt) steps in with his own plans. When Golden Sovereign runs off with Roy's mare, Skoville shoots the stallion by mistake, and Roy is falsely accused of killing the horse. Unable to prove his innocence, he is jailed for the crime, but a year later returns with Trigger, son of Golden Sovereign. After Skoville reveals that he was present when the horse was shot, Roy sees a chance to clear his name.
