Mystic Pizza is a classic '80s flick that is part romantic comedy and part drama, with a dash of magic supplied by the special sauce that keeps customers coming back to the title pizza parlor. Directed by Donald Petrie and released in 1988, Mystic Pizza is most famous for launching the careers of its young starlets. Set in a pizza establishment that bears the name of the close-knit community of Mystic, Connecticut, the movie follows the romantic travails of three female friends fresh out of high school who work there as waitresses. The Arujo sisters, Kat (Annabeth Gish) and Daisy (Julia Roberts), deal with sex and romance in their own very different ways, but share a desperate desire to make it out of Mystic. Completing the trio of friends, independent Jojo (Lili Taylor) battles with commitment issues as she faces the prospect of marriage. Meanwhile, Mystic Pizza owner Leona (Conchata Ferrell) keeps close tabs on her secret recipe for a sauce that seems almost mystical.moreless
