Nanny McPhee is a 2005 American family comedy, starring Colin Firth and Emma Thompson in a fantastical story of family, love, and good behavior. It is 19th century England and Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) is a magical governess who appears at the door of the troubled widower, Mr. Brown (Colin Firth), right when he needs her most. His seven children are misbehaving, rebuking a whole string of seventeen governesses that come their way, and financial stresses force him to woo the repulsive Mrs. Selma Quickly (Celia Imrie), a local three-time widow with a taste for garish clothing and a quite vulgar manner. Mrs. Quickly does not love the children and is interested merely in the sensual benefits of having a new man and the material benefits of the wealth that Mr. Brown is to inherit if he makes a marriage within the short time frame allotted him by the familys aged benefactress.
