Movie Summary

Jared Hess

The movie revolves around the solitary, listless teenager, Napoleon Dynamite, and his less than impassioned quest to help Pedro win the class presidency at their small western high school. Napoleon's home life is bizzare to say the least and his ability to deal with the opposite sex is limited, so despite Napoleon's apparent inability to express any type of enthusiasm, the film sparks many laughs.

It's a simple collection of sight gags and pratfalls that mines the overly familiar turf of awkward adolescence without bringing anything truly original to the experience.

  • Comedy is personal BUT NEEDS TO MAKE YOU LAUGH

I tried to watch this movie twice because a friend of mine (who has vast movie knowledge) hated it the first time but loved it the second viewing. Well watching Napoleon Dynamite twice is akin to mental torture! A "comedy" that does not evoke ONE laugh throughout the entire film is humoriculous to be ranked well as a comedy. However, I did state that humor is a very personal genre. I assume if you like Mel Brooks or Woody Allen or the Coen Brothers then you have an intelligent sense of humor and would loath Napoleon Dynamite. Well other than the last mention classic humor movie makers, I also love Sunny in Philadelphia, and Robot Chicken and LITTLE NICKY. So obviously my humor sense is quite diverse BUT NAPOLEON DOESN'T MAKE ME EVEN GRIN! If you love it I would REALLY like to know what other comedy movie you like.moreless
