National Geographic: Inside the Body Trade is just one part of a larger National Geographic exclusive series that profiles some of the most common, yet intriguing things that occur and surround us in the world today or have occurred in the world of the past. Each program runs just under an hour in length and brings us deep into the unknown to better understand what is sometimes right in front of us. In this installment, National Geographic correspondent Lisa Ling goes far into the belly of the dangerous and disgusting illegal black market body business. Every year thousands and thousands of people put in requests for organ replacement, but more than half of those orders never arrive. As a result, many of the people waiting on these vital organs die. Because of the overwhelming rise in fatality, the illegal harvesting of human organs has become a lucrative industry. National Geographic takes us behind the curtain to explore this grotesque world.
