Neal Cassady is a 2007 biographical drama about the Beat Generation icon as he struggles with his infamy. In the late 1950s, Jack Kerouac became a literary sensation with the publication of "On The Road." He modeled the central character, Dean Moriarty, on his good friend and fellow traveler, Neal Cassady (Tate Donovan). The film follows Cassady after the road adventures, as he grapples with the odd life of being a famous character in someone else's book. His own writing efforts did not receive the attention of Kerouac, but he gets a fan base. Living up to their expectations of a free and spirited existence causes rifts in his marriage to Carolyn (Amy Ryan). In the 1960s, he becomes part of the traveling psychedelic circus led by author Ken Kesey (Chris Bauer) and other anti-establishment types that see Cassady as a pioneer. Writer-director Noah Buschel captures the struggles of a man in conflict with his legend in this poignant drama.
