Necessary Roughness is a 1991 comedy film about a Texas university's rag-tag football team, the Fightin' Armadillos. Due to numerous NCAA infractions, the Armadillos entire previously winning team and coaching staff is banned from playing in the league. Now a the new head coaches Ed Gennero (Hector Elizondo) and Wally Rig (Robert Loggia) must construct a team from volunteers within the colleges student body. Needless to say, this isn't an easy task and the college doesn't have much left to offer. With a defensman that's a returning graduate student (Sinbad), a kicker that's actually a soccer player and a girl (Kathy Ireland), and a quarter back that barely finished high school (Scott Bakula), the group of misfits struggle to win a single game all season. But with arch rival and the best team in the league, the Colts, as the seasons last game, the nothing to lose group of underdogs pull together to play the game of a lifetime.
