Ned Kelly is the 1970 biographical drama about an Australian folk hero who came to represent the colony's defiance of the British authority. Rock star Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones plays the title role, an outlaw who went on a crime spree in the late 1800s. Ned Kelly (Mick Jagger) returns home after serving three years in prison, but quickly finds himself back in trouble with the authorities for horse theft. Ned goes into hiding, so the police arrest Mrs. Kelly (Clarissa Kaye), his mother, on false murder charges. When they refuse to accept his surrender for his mother's release, Ned forms an outlaw gang with his brother, Dan (Allen Bickford), Joe Byrne (Mark McManus) and Steve Hart (Geoff Gilmour). They rob banks and develop a Robin Hood-like reputation until they find themselves surrounded at the Glenrowan Inn. British director Tony Richardson ("Tom Jones") brings this rebel hero to the screen, with a soundtrack featuring Jagger collaborating with country singer Waylon Jennings.moreless
