Needful Things is the chilling 1993 adaptation of the popular Stephen King novel, adapted by celebrated screenwriter W.D. Richter (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dracula, Big Trouble in Little China) and directed by Fraser Clarke Heston, son of the famous 'Chuck.' Taking place in the favorite King stomping ground of Castle Rock, Maine, the town is quivering with anticipation of the opening of a brand new curio store called Needful Things, as well as the appearance of the shop's enigmatic owner, Leland Gaunt (Max Von Sydow, The Exorcist, Minority Report). The first to meet him is young Brian Rusk. Probing the youth's innermost wants, the elderly but spry Gaunt determine the exact thing in his shop for the lad: an authentic Mickey Mantle baseball card worth a great deal. For this trifle, Gaunt wants no money. Instead, he wants payment in the form of a' deed. And so it goes for the denizens of the town of Castle Rock in their dealings with Gaunt: hidden within Gaunt's shop are many objects that they secretly desire and may have - for a price.moreless
