Neo Ned is a psychological drama about a man, Ned (Jeremy Renner), who is trying to cope with his existence and searching for a place where he belongs. Ned has always looked to his father as a role model, even though he spend the majority of his life in prison. After being adopted by several families, it finally seems as if he has found a home. That is until his entire foster family commits suicide. Alone in the world once more, he joins the Aryan Brotherhood. After being charged with a murder of which he is innocent, Ned is placed in a mental institution. It is there that he meets a charming and attractive African American woman, Rachel (Gabrielle Union). While his Aryan beliefs dictate he should look down upon her, he sees the reincarnation of Adolph Hitler in this woman. The two eventually hit it off and escape to forge a life of their own together, but it soon becomes clear that this union is destined to fail.

Metacritic Score

  • 90

    Film Threat

A gem of a film that explores race relations, genetic fate and the allure of family, Neo Ned is a quality feat of filmmaking.

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times

Neo Ned is exactly the kind of production -- scrappy, flawed and a little odd -- that should exemplify the very notion of "independent film."

  • 70

    Variety

Neo Ned may be ludicrous on paper, but it has what fans of independent film are looking for -- atmosphere, humanity and just a dash of fantastic drama.
