Directed by Henry Hathaway, Nevada Smith is a 1966 American Western film starring Steve McQueen, Karl Malden, Brian Keith, and Martin Landau. When Max Sans (McQueen) witnesses the torture and murder of his parents by a band of outlaws, he vows his revenge on Bill Bowdre (Arthur Kennedy), Jesse Coe (Landau), and Tom Fitch (Malden). The outlaws motivated their murder due to Max's parent's mixed marriage, with his mother being Native American and his father Caucasian. With little knowledge of working a gun, Max enlists the help of Jonas Cord (Keith), a gunsmith. When Max encounters Jesse after searching numerous towns, he brutally kills him in a knife fight, but is wounded himself and requires medical attention. Neesa (Janet Margolin) aids him in his recovery, and Max then heads out to kill the other two outlaws. When he encounters one of the other murderers in prison, Max stages a robbery in order to get himself closer to him. Nevada Smith was nominated for a Golden Laurel award at the 1967 Laurel Awards.
