New Guy is a 2004 comedy thriller directed by Bilge Ebiri. In this film, Gregg (Kelly Miller) is just an average guy who thinks he is starting a new ordinary job at a big corporation. When arriving at his new employment, Gregg is startled to find his cubicle covered in post-it notes left by the previous occupant. His co-workers range from wanting to be his best friend to completely ignoring him, sometimes in the same conversation. This alarms Gregg, but he shrugs it off. He does learn that the guy he is replacing did not leave the company on good terms. Gregg just wants to get through his first day and go out on a date with Susan (Tobi-Lyn Byers). As the day drags by, Gregg comes to realize that his new employer expects more from his employees than just quality work. Will Gregg flourish at his new employer or do they have a different career path in mind for him?moreless

    Variety Dennis Harvey

Does a lot with little, milking a single location and minimal dialogue for deadpan humor, tension, and macabre payoff.

This is Ebiri's first feature after directing four shorts. He shows talent, but shouldn't give up his day job just yet.
