New Port South is a 2001 drama directed by Kyle Cooper. Maddox (Blake Shields) is a restless student at New Port South High School in Chicago. When he suspects that the teachers are hiding a dark secret from him and his fellow students, Maddox investigates further. He finds out that a student, John Stanton (Michael Shannon), went away to a mental institution years ago. Although he cannot conclusively prove it, Maddox suspects that the high school administration had something to do with John's disappearance and his resulting time in an asylum. As he follows the case, Maddox manages to get in touch with John, corresponding by letter. The two conspire together to humble the corrupt authorities at the high school. First, Maddox gains the support of his friends, Chris (Will Estes) and Clip (Kevin Christy). He gains the support of most of the student body as they wage psychological warfare against the school administration. Even if they can outsmart Mr. Walsh (Todd Field), the rebelling students may have an unpleasant surprise waiting for them on the other side of the anarachy.
