Nicholas' Gift is an American drama that examines the aftermath of a tragic accident that cost a young boy his life. Reg and Maggie Green (Alan Bates and Jamie Lee Curtis) are attacked while on vacation and their son is murdered, but they will not let him go without being remembered. This is why they offer his organs for transplant to sickly patients who would otherwise have no chance of survival. This was a great feat as an organ donation on this scale was unheard of in Italy at the time. Through this enormous gift, they keep the memory of their son, Nicholas, alive and he is declared a national hero in Italy. Nicolas' Gift also examines the religious and spiritual aspects of such an act. The film is based largely on a true story and chronicles the aftermath of the incidents leading up to and past this tragic event. In a country that once had one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world, Italy has since grown to have one of the highest, and this change was sparked in part by this one generous act.moreless
