Nico the Unicorn is a 1998 Canadian family movie based on the novel by Frank Hastings. Billy Hastings (Kevin Zergers) and his mother Julie (Anne Archer) have just moved to rural Vermont to get over a drunk driving accident which left Billy disabled and his father killed. They visit a petting zoo where Billy discovers a pony about to be sold to the slaughterhouse. Instead, Billy and his mother work out a deal to buy it from the zookeeper. However, once they get the pony home, they're surprised to find out that she's pregnant. She gives birth to what turns out to be an unicorn, who Billy names Nico. Shortly after, the pony is attacked and killed my a mountain lion, leaving Billy and his mother with only Nico. When news of the unicorn spreads, Billy, his mother, and Nico face danger as the townspeople want to exploit Nico for financial gain.
