Night and Day is a classic biography, starring Cary Grant as Cole Porter, a famous American songwriter and composer. Filmmaker Michael Curtiz takes a piece of Cole's life and brings it to the big screen, opening the film in 1910 at Yale University. Professor Monty Woolley (himself) teaches Cole how to compose, and the young man's progres impresses him. In spite of the professor's advice about entering the war, Cole enlists. He meets Linda (Alexis Smith) in Europe, and she shows him the London's theater district. Cole falls instantly in love with composing musicals. He marries Linda and he heads to New York after the war to start his career. The musician finds instant success, writing hit after hit, including "Just One of Those Things" and "I Get a Kick Out of You." A polo accident then leaves the famous songwriter paralyzed, causing doctors to amputate both legs. Cole now wants to stage a comeback, but everyone questions whether Broadway will accept a crippled composer. Cary Grant, Dorothy Malone, Ginny Simms and Mary Martin produce the soundtrack with live performances of Porter's songs performed throughout the film.moreless
