Night at the Museum is a 2006 fantasy adventure-comedy film based on Milan Trenc's 1993 children's book of the same name, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Benn Stiller, Carla Gugino, and Dick Van Dyke. Larry Daler (Ben Stiller) is a divorced father and business world failure who cannot hold down a stable job. His life isn't going anywhere fast and it starts looking like his own son, Nick (Jake Cherry), may be turning out to respect his future stepfather, Don (Paul Rudd), more than he does Larry. So when an elderly night guard at the American Museum of Natural History, Cecil (Dick Van Dyke), offers Larry his job, despite Larry's unimpressive resume, Larry takes it immediately. And that's when things start getting crazy'it turns out that the exhibits all come to life at night! Sure, it freaks Larry out at first, but then it actually inspires him to learn more about history. For once, everything seems to be going right for Larry. But, as with seemingly inanimate museum displays, things aren't always as they seem. Night at the Museum is a history-filled riot for adventure lovers of all ages.
