Night Catches Us is a 2010 dramatic film written and directed by Tanya Hamilton. The story centers on Marcus (Anthony Mackie), a former Black Panther that returns to Philadelphia in 1976 to attend his father's funeral. Marcus left Philadelphia when he gained a reputation as a snitch, which led to the death of a fellow Panther. DoRight (Jamie Hector), a former friend of Marcus', and Bostic (Tariq Trotter), Marcus' brother, are least pleased that Marcus has returned. Marcus befriends Patricia (Kerry Washington), the ex-wife of the slain Panther, and her daughter, Iris (Jamara Griffin). Unfortunately Marcus draws Patricia and Iris back into the gang fight, and the police become involved. DoRight and Bostic become entangled in a shootout, and Marcus then must make the decision about whether to stay in Philadelphia or to leave his troubled past behind. Night Catches Us premiered at the 26th Sundance Film Festival and was highly acclaimed.
