Night People is a 1954 military thriller, written and directed by Nunnally Johnson, about Cold War conflict in divided Germany. When Soviet Spies kidnap Johnny Leatherby (Ted Avery), a young American soldier stationed in West Berlin, it sets off a chain of events that include intrigue, double-dealing and Cold War politicking. Colonel Steve Van Dyck (Gregory Peck) appears on the scene, using all his contacts to try to free the boy. When he captures two Soviet double agents, he tries to use them to broker a prisoner swap and get back Johnny. Johnny's father, Charles Leatherby (Broderick Crawford) flies to Berlin himself, to try to convince the US military command to find his son. The film features mysterious lovers from Colonel Van Dyck's past, rogue intelligence agents, and all kinds of thrilling spy maneuvering. As suspicions and intrigue start to mount, and the Colonel and Mr. Leatherby come into conflict, questions of human trust and the methods of Cold War politics come to overshadow the quest for missing Johnny.moreless
