Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) is a 2004 Russian film based on the novel of the same name by Sergei Lukyanenko and directed by Timur Bekmambetov. A supernatural thriller set in modern-day Moscow, the film depicts the conflict of two groups of 'Others', one of which is 'Dark' and one of which is 'Light'. Under the terms of a thousand-year old truce, the Dark - vampires and other creatures of evil - roam the world at night, policed by the Night Watch formed from the forces of Light, while the Dark have formed a Day Watch to police the forces of Light. The film's protagonist is Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabenskiy), who discovers while seeking the help of the sorceress Daria to return his estranged wife to him that he is an Other, and becomes a member of the Night Watch. An international (English-language) version of the film was released later, notable for its subtitles which were animated to reflect the tone of the action taking place on screen.moreless
