Nightmare Man is a 2007 horror movie written and directed by Rolfe Kanefsky. Ellen (Blythe Metz) orders an African fertility mask from Rome in order to improve her sex life with her husband Bill (Luciano Szafir). However, she receives the wrong mask in the mail and soon starts to have terrifying dreams. When she becomes convinced that the mask is haunted by a monster called the Nightmare Man, her husband thinks that she is having psychotic episodes. She is diagnosed as a schizophrenic by psychiatrists, so Bill decides to admit her to a mental hospital called the Devonshire Institute. As they are driving to the hospital, the car breaks down and Bill decides to walk to a gas station for help. Left behind in the car, Ellen thinks that the Nightmare Man is stalking her and races into the woods. She soon finds a remote cabin owned by Mia (Tiffany Shepis), who is staying there with a small group of friends. Although the group is initially unconcerned about Ellen's fears of the Nightmare Man, they soon discover that her worst nightmares might be reality.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 90

    Film Threat

A solid, whirlwind of a horror movie, with more twists and turns than a hula hoop competition.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times

Intermittently fun and occasionally witty, with just the right touch of self-awareness.

  • 20

    Variety Robert Koehler

Perfs are either absurdly stiff or over-the-top, and effects and makeup look like they were made in someone's garage.
