No One Knows About Persian Cats is a 2009 Iranian film about an up-and-coming rock band that has to find away to get their voice heard in a country that wants to suppress their message. Directed by Bahman Ghobadi and produced by Wild Bunch, the film follows two friends and musicians, Ashkan and Negar. Recently released from prison, they decide to start a rock band in order to keep themselves productive and busy, as well as a way to leave the country and see the world. They meet an underground music producer, Hamed Behdad, who tries to help them find musicians to start their band, as well as get shows within Tehran's underground music scene. This proves difficult under a government that regularly censors the voice of its youth movements and anything seen as controversial and unorthodox. The band must face and challenge cultural norms in order to perform their music. No One Knows About Persian Cats won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.moreless
