Movie Summary

No Reservations is a romantic drama film directed by Scott Hicks, based on the German film Mostly Martha, which centers on Kate Armstrong (Catherine Zeta-Jones), an uptight control freak of a talent chef who lives her life just as she would work a recipe – seriously, strictly, and unemotionally. Despite her boss, Paula’s (Patricia Clarkson), attempt at getting her to break out of her rigidity, which includes a demand for therapy – she typically repeats recipes instead of sharing her feelings, Kate has trouble dealing with customers, especially if they tell her how to work her food. When her sister, the only one she’s ever been somewhat normal around, dies in a car accident, her young niece Zoe (Abigail Breslin) is left in her care. Kate’s life is turned upside down trying to handle her withdrawn niece and the new sous-chef, free-spirited, loud, and flexible Nicholas Palmer (Aaron Eckhart), who Kate swears is trying to steal her kitchen. Kate learns the hard way that life is not like a recipe and a little spontaneity can bring about the greatest of flavors.moreless
