1987

No Way Out is a stylish suspense film, reminiscent of the film noir genre from the 1940's. No Way Out is a masterful film, with an intricate plot that will keep you guessing as it hurtles along at breakneck speed. The film opens with U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell (Kevin Costner) meeting a beautiful, mysterious woman at a ball. Immediately smitten, Farrell begins an affair with the lovely Susan Atwell (Sean Young), all the while knowing she is involved with another man. Returning to D.C. permanently, Farrell is tasked to work closely with Secretary of Defense David Brice (Gene Hackman) and soon discovers he is the other man in Susan's life. When Susan is found murdered, Farrell is asked by Brice, the real killer, to find out the identity of Susan's other lover. Aided by his General Counsel Scott Pritchard (Will Patton), Brice concocts a story implicating Susan in an affair with a KGB sleeper agent. Unwilling to protect his boss and unable to implicate himself, Farrell must rely on his wits to live long enough to expose the truth. A terrific thriller, No Way Out is a labyrinth of twists and turns, with the final scene a shocking revelation of the real truth.
