Not Quite Hollywood is a 2008 documentary written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Mark Hartley. The film focuses on Australian exploitation films, otherwise known as Ozploitation films. Beginning with the first Australian exploitation films, which were released in the 1970's, Not Quite Hollywood tells the fascinating and often hilarious tale of this controversial and much-maligned film genre. Exploitation films typically rely upon extreme gore, nudity, violence, disturbing plots and other shocking content and are often censored or banned because of it. Over the past forty years, Australian exploitation films have developed a reputation for stretching the boundaries of this extreme genre even further, testing the limits of what audiences will pay to see and what can legally be shown on screen. Not Quite Hollywood features thoughtful, enlightening interviews with many of the most important names in the Australian cinema industry, including Glory Annen, Christine Amor, Victoria Anoux, and Phillip Adams. This revealing documentary will delight fans of exploitation films, and has also proven popular with devotees of horror movies and thrillers.moreless
