Not Without My Daughter is a 1984 film which centers around an American housewife trapped inside the city of Tehran . The film is based on the real story of Betty Mahmoody, who wrote a book of the same title. William Hoffer and David W. Rintels adapted the book to film, which Brian Gilbert directed. Betty (Sally Fields) accompanies her husband "Moody" (Alfred Molina) on a seemingly short trip to his native country of Iran. Joining them on their vacation is their little daughter Mahtob (Sheila Rosenthal). Shortly after arriving in Iran, Moody's true motives for taking the family on a 'vacation' are revealed: he wants the family to live in Tehran and convert to Islam. Betty does not agree with Moody's reasons or methods. She is utterly bewildered by the lengths to which Moody has gone. As she argues with him and insists on leaving the country with Mahrob, he only becomes more obstinate and violent. It appears Betty and Mahrob will never make it back to the United States. Not Without My Daughter is guaranteed to move you.moreless
