Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037 is the documentary film which shows the process behind creating the legendary Steinway pianos. Steinway & Sons was founded in 1853 in New York City, and has been creating beautiful pianos since. The company was founded by German immigrant Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg. They opened a factory and employee village in Astorio, Queens, later opening another in Hamburg, Germany. Steinweg, later changing his name to Steinway, set to creating his company with a simple goal, to build the best piano possible. With three principles, "build to a standard, not a price", "make no compromise in quality", and "strive always to improve the instrument", Steinway has gone on to become a legend in the piano business. In the modern age, the demand for such unrelenting quality has suffered due to cheaper factories, the recession and more. Documentary filmmaker Ben Niles sets out to show the people who still believe that quality and craftsmanship matters. See these few craftsmen who still build these legendary pianos, and follow them from the factory to great concert halls around the world in Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037.moreless
