Movie Summary

Richard Eyre
Notes on a Scandal is the 2006 psychological thriller, adapted from the novel by Zoe Heller, from director Richard Eyre (Iris). Barbara Covett (Judi Dench) is a bitter and lonely high school teacher disliked by her co workers and pupils alike who is close to retiring. In her spare time she writes a diary every day and taking care of her cat Portia, and then she meets the new art teacher Sheba Hart (Cate Blanchett), and she dedicates all the time she can to spending time with her. After helping her deal with two students, Sheba and Barbara are pretty much best friends, and she gets to meet Sheba's family, twenty years older husband Richard Hart (Bill Nighy), teenage daughter Polly (Juno Temple) and Downs Syndrome suffering son Ben (Max Lewis). Barbara feels like her life is changing for the better, until she spots Sheba making love with fifteen year old student Steven Connolly (Andrew Simpson), and Sheba foolishly confesses to Barbara about the affair. Barbara agrees to hide the truth from the school headmaster, but she also sees the opportunity to manipulate Sheba and get a lot closer to her.moreless
