Movie Summary

Steven Soderbergh

Ocean's Twelve is the sequel to the movie Ocean's Eleven, bringing back Danny Ocean, Rusty Ryan, Linus Caldwell, and the rest of Danny Ocean's gang, along with twelfth member Basher Tarr for an even bigger heist. Terry Benedict, who they ripped off in their last robbery, is demanding his $160 million, plus $38 million in interest, be returned to him, and the group decides to take their con artistry abroad to avoid U.S. authorities tracking them. An informant tips them off about a document that can solve their debt, but a con named the Night Fox beats them to it. Detective Isabel Lahiri investigates the theft and discovers the group's involvement because of her history with Rusty. The Night Fox turns out to be Francois Toulour, a fan of Danny Ocean, and challenges his team to steal the Coronation Egg. If they succeed, he will pay off their debts. Lahiri catches the group on their first attempt but only some of their members are involved. Their second chance is their last if they want to pay off their debt to Benedict and beat Toulour at his own game.

Metacritic Score

  • 70

The New York Times Manohla Dargis

    Enjoyable, unabashedly trivial caper flick.

  • 70

    Variety Todd McCarthy

This smooth inside job benefits from heightened bonhomie among the players, fab Euro locations and a diminished obligation to stick to the heist genre boilerplate.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Isn't good and isn't bad, it just isn't. A lethargic would-be entertainment as well as a dispiriting vanity project, it is such a misfire that it makes it hard to remember what was...
